Ford is giving the compact Figo hatchback an additional dose of individuality and eye-catching style with the launch of the special edition new Figo Blu.
“We developed Figo Blu for our customers who are bold, seek uniqueness and push beyond the boundaries,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager Marketing at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. “The standard Figo hatchback is already a very competitive offering in the compact segment, but this special edition model allows customers to really stand out from the crowd.”
Based on the five-door Figo 1.5 Trend, a limited production run of 360 units are available of the dynamic new Figo Blu, which has a distinct and fresh personality that makes it truly unique. It can easily be distinguished from the standard Figo by means of a number of exciting styling enhancements.
In keeping with its dynamic character, the Figo Blu is adorned with a black mesh grille, while the distinctive treatment of the accented fog lamp housings is given additional verve thanks to eye-catching blue bezels. Black multi-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels replace the Figo Trend’s standard 14-inch versions and add to the athletic flair, in conjunction with black mirror housings and attractive decals that extend along the length of the lower section of the front and rear doors.
The roof is exclusively painted in black, which provides a dramatic and effective contrast to the three available body colour choices: Moondust Silver, Oxford White and Smoke Grey.
The sense of individuality extends to the interior of the Figo Blu too, as all four door panels incorporate distinctive blue gloss trim inserts. This is matched to a classy leather steering wheel, blue stitching for the gearshift gaiter, and the ‘Figo Blu’ logo embroidered on the front floor mats.
The established Figo virtues of generous space and comfort remain, combined with an impressive list of standard features that ensures exceptional value for money. This includes electric windows all round, central locking, perimeter anti-theft alarm and an immobiliser.
A built-in Ford Audio unit is provided with integrated display and four speakers. The system incorporates Bluetooth connectivity, a USB slot, as well as Ford’s unique Device Dock in the upper section of the centre console for connecting and powering smart phone devices.
On the safety front, the Figo Blu is equipped with driver and passenger front airbags as well as ABS brakes.
As with the entire Figo range, the New Figo Blu is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This latest-generation unit is powerful, efficient and clean, and uses an aluminium engine block and cylinder head for reduced weight.
It relies on twin independent variable camshaft timing (TiVCT) for the four-valves-per-cylinder engine to deliver impressive low-down torque as well as top-end power. The fitment of a dual-stage variable oil pump further enhances efficiency, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The 1.5 TiVCT engine is credited with a maximum power output of 88kW of power at 6 300 r/min, and peak torque of 150Nm at 4 250 r/min for great all-round driving dynamics, impressive fuel economy and low running costs.
The five-speed transmission used on the Figo Blu has an EcoMode with shift indicator, which informs the driver of the ideal point to shift up or down a gear, thereby helping to further reduce fuel consumption.
